3 Days Akagera Wildlife Safari

A 3 days Akagera wildlife safari is a great package for travelers who want to explore wildlife in Rwanda. Akagera National Park is the only savannah national park in Rwanda. Good news is all the big five game animals can be found here. These animals include lions, leopards, elephants, cape buffaloes and rhinos.

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park & Afternoon Boat Cruise

Have breakfast and depart for Akagera National Park in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. Akagera National Park is 2.5 – 3 hours away from Kigali. When you reach the park, your guide will clear with the rangers and after transfer you to your lodge for lunch. After having an early lunch, you will drive around the park on a scenic tour as you wait for your afternoon boat experience.

In the afternoon, you will carry out a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, the best place for boat safaris in Rwanda. On this lake, you will see lots of crocodiles, hippopotamuses, several species of birds and a few animals hydrating on the water-banks.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive

This day we drive up north for a full day game drive. You will carry packed lunch and start you’re your transfer to the northern sector of Akagera National Park, an area with the highest concentration of wildlife in the park. On your way to the north, you will see a lot of animals and small lakes and just when you reach the north, you’ll realize you are seeing a lot more wildlife than what is in the south.

Some of the common and good sights here include Africa Elephants, Giraffes, Cape Buffaloes, Topi, Zebras, Impala and a lot more animals. Besides the spectacular game viewing drive, Akagera is a great place for birding too. You will see lots of birds on this game viewing drive. This game drive could last up to six hours with picnic lunch. After you will return to your lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Departure

After having breakfast, you will carry out one last game drive and after exit the park and drive back to Kigali to mark the end of your 3 days Akagera Wildlife safari.
